Desi Bar & Grill is a GTA name that pushed downtown. The chain built its reputation in Mississauga, Brampton and Markham on a simple promise — "Indian food done right" — and the Queen West location at 815 Queen West brings that formula to a strip that had nothing like it: a proper Indian kitchen attached to a proper bar, in a room decorated to feel like an occasion rather than a takeout counter.
The food carries the concept. The menu runs from tandoori classics through curries to Indo-fusion crossovers, and the dishes guests talk about — tandoori momos, malai chicken, chicken tacos — tell you the kitchen enjoys the space between traditional and contemporary. The bar is full-service, and on regular nights the room works as a group-dinner restaurant with music setting the mood rather than driving it.
Then there are the Bollywood pub nights. On select Saturdays the venue flips into party mode — a DJ (past events have featured DJ EXO), late start times around 11pm, tickets sold through event platforms, and a crowd that came specifically to hear Bollywood, Punjabi and desi hits at volume. On this strip of Queen West, nobody else is doing that night, which makes Desi a genuine one-of-one when the calendar lines up. The catch is exactly that: the calendar. Programming is event-based, hours aren't centrally published, and a random Tuesday won't look anything like an event Saturday — check before you go.
Bottom line: book a group dinner, order across the tandoor, and if there's a Bollywood night on the calendar, get tickets and stay. If you walk in expecting a nightly club, you'll find a restaurant — a good one — so match your visit to the event schedule.
