Best for
- Starting a Queen West night with real cocktails before the club
- Dates — conversational early, buzzy with a DJ later
- Small groups who want a table, snacks and no door politics
Skip if
- You want a dance floor — this is a bar with a DJ, not a club
- You're rolling deep after midnight expecting bottle service
- You want guaranteed late-night hours — confirm before a 1am arrival
Good Company is the kind of place Queen West does better than anywhere else in the city: a room that refuses to be one thing. Behind an unassuming entrance at 498 Queen West, owners Mandy Todaro and Eric Buzzeo — with Todaro running the kitchen — stacked a café, a snack bar, a cocktail bar and a working barbershop into a single space. It opened in stages: café and barbershop first, with the cocktail program following a few months later once the room found its feet.
The day-to-night shift is the whole trick. Mornings and afternoons it's a legitimate café — breakfast sandwiches, brunch plates, pastries from Forno Cultura — with barbers working chairs at the same time. After dark the lights come down and it becomes a snug cocktail bar: classics and house creations, beer, and wines by the glass including a rotating small-batch selection from Traynor Vineyard. The night menu is shareable and better than bar-snack default — burrata on toasted sourdough, steak tartare, spiedini. On its buzziest nights there's a DJ going until 2am.
The limits are built into the concept. It's an intimate room, not a venue — big groups will feel like they're taking over someone's living room (which, on the right night, is the appeal). There's no dance floor, no bottle service, and the energy is a hum rather than a peak. And because the venue doesn't publish a formal hours page, a very late arrival is a small gamble — the 2am close reported in local coverage is the bar-night ceiling, not a nightly guarantee.
Bottom line: the best first-stop on this stretch of Queen West. Book the early table, split the tartare, have two proper cocktails, then walk to Hyve or Apt 200 when you want volume. Or stay put on a DJ night and let it be the whole evening — plenty of people do.
